How to connect the device to the App?
Turn on MAPO® SOLAIRE by pressing briefly the button on the device. Then activate the Bluetooth connection on the phone, open the App and follow the instructions. Use exclusively with the App for connecting the device, please do not change the Bluetooth options in the phone settings.
Is MAPO® SOLAIRE compatible with Android?
MAPO® SOLAIRE is for now only compatible with iOS (iPhone and iPad). The Android APP will be available by the end of 2017.
What should I do if my device does not connect to the App?
Check if MAPO® SOLAIRE is switched on, and put it close to the phone. If all the LEDs are blinking in white, switch off the device and restart it by briefly pressing on the button. Check if the Bluetooth connection is activated on the phone. If it is activated, try to deactivate and reactivate the Bluetooth, and relaunch the App.
What should I do if MAPO® SOLAIRE is connected to my phone, but the LEDs continue to blink in yellow or blue?
This signalling of the LEDs could indicate that the device receives information that is inconsistent from the phone, in particular, regarding the actual date and time. Check if the date and time on the phone are correct.
Why does my MAPO® SOLAIRE automatically turn off every evening after 10pm?
As there is not UV during the night and in order to save some battery, your MAPO® Solaire automatically turn off every night after 10pm. Don’t forget to turn it back on in the morning.

How to measure the UV index?
The UVI is a measure of the level of UV radiation, as is defined by the World Health Organisation to standardise the international measurement of UV radiation. MAPO® SOLAIRE directly measures the UV index with a sensor with ASTM G173-03 standard. In order to obtain the most precise measurement, it is recommended to always face MAPO® SOLAIRE to the sun during use, to avoid a lower UV index measured due to the angle between the sensor and the sun. What is the phototype and how is it determined?
The phototype, or the Fitzpatrick scale is a numerical classification schema for human skin color according to the sensitivity of the skin to the sun exposure. The phototype is determined by your answer to the questionnaire, which is primarily based on the the individual’s physical characteristics and the reaction of the skin after being exposed to the sun. There are six phototypes from 1 to 6, from the most sensitive to the least sensitive.
- Phototype I: always burns, never tans
- Phototype II: often burns, tans minimally
- Phototype III: sometimes mild burn, tans uniformly
- Phototype IV: burns minimally, always tans well
- Phototype V: very rarely burns, tans very easily
- Phototype VI: never burns, always tans
What is the cumulated UV dose exposure?
The cumulated UV dose represents the cumulation of your UV exposure during the day. It is calculated according to the UV index, the time of exposure and the applied sun protection. This dose enables the evaluation of the risk of for being in the sun, with reference to the maximum UV dose, which is the minimum level of sun exposure that will cause sunburn after 24 hours . The maximum UV dose depends on the phototype of an individual, as well as the level of tan.
Can MAPO® SOLAIRE be used for children?
It is recommended not to expose the children directly to the sun. Nonetheless, MAPO® SOLAIRE can help to measure the UVA&UVB exposure. In no case the maximum UV dose can be applicable to the children.
I have passed 100% UV dose, what should I do on the next day and the following days?
We recommend to not expose yourself to the sun on the following days.
I have had sunburn without reaching the 100% of my maximum UV dose, how to explain this?
The device might not be directly facing the sun, which caused a lower UV measurement. Check if your MAPO® SOLAIRE is directly facing the sun at any time. Or your sensitivity may be (temporarily) higher than calculated with the Fitzpatrick questionnaire. If this happens again when your device is directly facing the sun, this means that your phototype is lower that the one indicated. We recommend you to answer again to the questionnaire with answers indicating a greater sensitivity to the sun.
How is the presented historic data calculated?
The historic data consists of the data measured and the time when it is measured. From the historic data, MAPO® SOLAIRE calculates the accumulative UV dose, which represents the accumulation of your UV exposure during the day.
How can I be informed if I have reached my maximum UV dose?
When the daily UV exposure has reached 60% of the maximum UV dose, half of the lights will blink in yellow. When you have reached the 100% of the maximum UV dose, all of the lights will blink in yellow. To turn off the alert, press the button on MAPO® SOLAIRE. If your MAPO® SOLAIRE is connected to your phone at the moment of the alert, a notification will appear on your screen for you to turn off the alert.
When does MAPO Solaire measure my UV exposure?
MAPO solar, starting from the moment its turned on, measures and calculates your daily UV dose. For reasons of weaker UV indexes before 8am and after 8pm, the application will not display these exposure details, however, they will be taken into consideration in the calculation of your total daily dose.
Tracking the protection time
What is the link between the activities and the time of protection of my sunscreen?
The activities you are engaged influence the effective time of your sunscreen. In fact, the more your skin is contacting the water (swimming or sweating for example), the more quickly your sunscreen will water down and become less effective. In order to better track your UV cumulative UV dose, we recommend you to change the type of activities on MAPO® SOLAIRE for it to better estimate the evolution and the effectiveness of your sunscreen.
How do I know my remaining protection time?
The remaining protection time can be seen from the APP when your phone is connected with the device, or you can know it directly from the device MAPO® SOLAIRE by pressing briefly the button until the LED you see the blue LEDs on. The number of lights on indicates the remaining time:
- One LED : less than 30 minutes
- Two LEDs : between 30 to 60 minutes
- Three LEDs : between 61 to 90 minutes
- Four LEDs : between 91 to 120 minutes
How can I be informed if my sunscreen is no longer effective?
When the estimated effective time remained is shorter than 10 minutes, half of the LEDs will blink in blue. When the estimated effective time is up, all of the LEDs will blink in blue. To turn off the alert, press the button on MAPO® SOLAIRE. If your MAPO® SOLAIRE is connected to your phone at the moment of the alert, a notification will appear on your screen for you to turn off the alert.
Does MAPO® SOLAIRE take into account the different SPF of the sunscreen?
Yes. The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of your sunscreen is taken into account in the calculation of your exposure, provided that you record it in the application and inform the device that you have applied sunscreen.
What is my location used for?
MAPO® SOLAIRE uses your geographic location to complete your UV data.
Maintenance, conditions of use and cleaning
How long is the battery life of the device?
The battery life is around a week. We recommend you to charge the device every 3 to 4 days.
How to know if the battery of the device is fully charged ?
When the battery of the device is charging, a blue LED is on. This LEDs turns off when the battery of your MAPO® SOLAIRE is fully charged.
When the battery is fully discharged, do I lose all my data on the device?
When the battery is fully discharged, MAPO® SOLAIRE automatically backs up the data before turning off. All of the data will be recovered once the battery is charged.
How can I be informed if the battery of MAPO® SOLAIRE is almost fully discharged?
When the battery level is below 10% and the device is connected with the phone, a notification will appear on the screen reminding you that the battery needs to be recharged.
Is the device harmful upon contact with the body?
The device is developed and certified by international standards, including the electronic parts as well as the textile (Standard REACH).
What happens if the device is washed with water?
MAPO® SOLAIRE should not be immersed in water. It is, however, designed to withstand splashes, humidity, and dust.
What is the distance for a phone to connect with MAPO® SOLAIRE?
The range of connection between a MAPO® SOLAR and a telephone is about 15 meters in open field.
At what temperature can I use the device?
In order to ensure performance and avoid irreversible damage to the device, it is recommended not to exposure it to temperature below -10°C (14°F) or above 50°C (122°F).
How do I wash the device?
Clean MAPO® SOLAIRE only with a soft humid cloth. Do not use solvent.
